Dwayne Johnson Gets Tough, Goes ‘G.I. Joe’

Channing Tatum also looking to return in hopefully good sequel to Stephen Sommers's awful original film.

Dwayne Johnson is so hot right now: after lending his imposing presence and charming personality to the hit sequel Fast Five earlier this year, he's now looking to join yet another existing franchise: G.I. Joe

According to Deadline, Johnson is in talks to join G.I. Joe 2 for director Jon M. Chu, heretofore most famous for helming Step Up 2 The Streets, Step Up 3D and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Like many longtime G.I. Joe fans, our first thought was that Johnson would be a damn-near perfect fit for Sgt. Slaughter, the bulldogish drill instructor previously played by… Sgt. Slaughter. (What are the odds?) But no, it seems that he's up for the role of Roadblock, the elite fighting unit's heavy weapons expert and gourmet chef. Well, that works too.

It also appears that Channing Tatum is likely to return to the franchise as well, despite early reports that many of the original cast would be replaced for the sequel, due out in 2012. We suspect that Tatum's affiliation to the Step Up franchise gives him a leg up with Chu. You know, Adam G. Sevani would make a pretty good Tunnel Rat, if you can get past the fact that he's obviously not of Trinidadian descent.

Crave Online will return with more G.I. Joe 2 news, screaming "Cobra-LALALALALALALALALA" as we go.
