JoAnna Leanna Garcia is an American actress of Cuban descent, most famous for her role as Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery on The WB/The CW series “Reba.” She is now married to Cleveland Indians first baseman and right fielder Nick Swisher and goes by the name JoAnna Garcia Swisher.
JoAnna was born in Tampa, Florida to parents Lorraine and Jay Garcia on August 10, 1979. Her father, who is Cuban, is a physician and founder of Medizone weight loss. Her mother is a former teacher and homemaker. JoAnna also has a brother by the name of Michael. The two were raised in a bilingual household.
At age 10, JoAnna had already caught the acting bug. While attending Independent Day School in Tampa, she auditioned for a role in a local theater production of “How to Eat Like a Child” and landed the lead. As she continued to act in local theater, she was eventually discovered by Nickelodeon. So, in 1992, she shipped off to Montreal, Canada to star in not one, but two of the networks television shows, “Clarissa Explains It All” and “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”
It’s no surprise that while attending Tampa Catholic High School, JoAnna nabbed the title of homecoming queen. To top it off, she also landed herself a nice recurring guest spot on “Party of Five” to boot. After high school, she briefly attended the University of Florida. But with her acting career heating up, she decided to move to Los Angeles in pursuit of more acting gigs, which didn’t take long at all.
The list of JoAnna’s acting credits is exceptionally long, but the highlights include recurring roles on “Freaks and Geeks,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Royal Pains,” parts in teen sex comedies “American Pie 2” and “Not Another Teen Movie,” and series regular roles on “Reba,” “Priviledged,” “Better with You,” and “Animal Practice.” On June 7th, 2013, you can see JoAnna in the comedy film “The Internship.” It stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.
As for her personal life, JoAnna is inspired by her work with the Step Up Women’s Network, which is dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. She even created her own charity, “We Reach,” to help empower young women. JoAnna is also quite the animal lover, and owns 11 different pets, ranging from horses to dogs.
In 2009, Joanna began dating then New York Yankee Nick Swisher. The couple were engaged by May 2010, and married on December 11, 2010. They are expecting their first child, a baby girl, in May 2013.
