Ludivine Sagnier said, “I don’t act to be popular, or see my face on the cover of magazines every time I go out to get coffee. I don’t want to think about me all the time, and what I look like.”
As for being naked on camera, she said, “I’m much more confident in front of a camera, hidden by a character, enhanced by makeup, so I can go much further than I can in real life. Being naked is quite a natural thing, but it’s more the sexual situations. Sexual acting is painful, because even though you’re pretending, you have the skin of the person in front of you, and it’s not the skin you wish you had.”
After her famous nude scenes in “Swimming Pool,” she said, “I had worked on that tan and I worked out in order to look that way, and I thought I didn’t want to be the next sexual attraction, so I turned down a lot of offers related to that.” Ludivine Sagnier added, “Every time they ask me too much about nudity or being a sex bomb, I say something about Tinkerbell in order to wash my sins away.”
As for her evolving career, she said, “I was the rabbit in the headlights, completely lost. So I had to protect myself. But now I’m 33. I’m a mother of two. I’ve done the work and I know myself. I can face anything. I’m strong.” Being a mother also helped solidify that “living life is more important than having some kind of superstar career.”
When she chooses a film, she looks to “entertain myself on set…something that feeds me and helps me explore human relationships and human psychology and know myself better.”
As for acting, Ludivine Sagnier said, “I used to have difficulty getting rid of a character. After shooting, it was really difficult to get back to reality…but then I became a mum and when I get home, it’s all: ‘Mummm, I’m hungry.’”
Ludivine Sagnier has two children and resides in Paris, France.
