Nazanin Boniadi is an Iranian-British actress probably best known for her roles on “Homeland" and “How I Met Your Mother.” She is set to join the ABC series “Scandal.”
Nazanin Boniadi described herself on Twitter as “Freedom fighter, thespian, perpetual student of life, chocoholic…among other things.” Her nickname is “Naz" and she is fluent in English and Farsi. She is also a human rights activist and official spokesperson for Amnesty International USA.
Nazanin Boniadi was born in Iran near the height of the Iranian Revolution and her parents moved to London shortly afterwards.

Nazanin Boniadi decided she wanted to be a physician and moved to the United States to attend the University of California at Irvine. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences and won the “Chang Pin Chun” Undergraduate Research Award for her work in heart-transplant rejection and cancer research.
She then turned to acting and studied Contemporary Drama at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She later appeared as a regular on the soap “General Hospital” and earned an N.A.A.C.P. Image Award nomination for her work. She has appeared in 2008’s “Iron Man,” “The Next Three Days” and “Charlie Wilson’s War.”
As for her character on “Homeland,” Nazanin Boniadi said, “We are both strong-willed with a deep sense of responsibility and a passion for justice. But I’d say I’m definitely goofier than Fara.” She added, “It’s a groundbreaking role that I’m honored to play.”
Nazanin Boniadi also had a short-lived relationship with Tom Cruise from November 2004 to January 2005, where she lived with him. She was a Scientologist, but left the Church in 2010. There are accusations that go into more detail from a Vanity Fair article; however Scientology denies them. She later rapped in a song: “This ain’t no road to freedom/it’s a blind alley/like Kristie Alley/Travolta and Cruise, but we ain’t no fools.”
Nazanin Boniadi is single and resides in Los Angeles, California.
