Tina Maze is a Slovenian alpine ski racer. She has been voted the best Slovenian female athlete of the year on four separate occasions and counting, and has also participated in three Winter Olympics in 2002, 2010 and 2014.
Tina Maze was born in the mining village of Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia on May 2, 1983, moving to Crna na Koroskem, Slovenia shortly after. Within three years, Tina had already learned how to ski, and as the years progressed, took interests in both volleyball and piano as well. The ladder would come in handy years down the line, but until then, Tina continued to keep herself focused on skiing, a talent that would bring her much success in the years to come.
After making her debut at the World Cup when she was only 15 years old, Tina competed in the giant slalom competition at the 2001 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships two years later. The following year, once again competing in giant slalom (as that was her specialty at the time), she took part in her first official Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, where the young athlete finished twelfth overall. By the time the 2010 Olympics rolled around, Tina had really blossomed as an athlete, not just in the giant slalom, but as a specialist in downhill, Super-G, slalom, and super combined as well. In fact, she wound up taking two silver medals this time around in both the giant slalom event and Super G.
Of course, to only highlight Tina's Olympic accomplishments would be a crime, as she is not only one of six women to ever win in all five disciplines at the Alpine Skiing World Cup event, but also one of only three to win in all five disciplines in a single season. To top it all off, in 2012, she officially launched her career as a musician, releasing the single, "My Way is My Decision, " On October 26, 2012. The single was produced on of Slovenia's top producers, Raay, and the music video went on to be the most viewed new video on YouTube by a Slovenian musical artist, reaching 400,000 views in just three days.
