WTF?! 2 Live Crew's Luther Campbell For Mayor of Miami?

Back when you were a little kid trying to catch a peek of the aggressively flapping bodymeat in any given "2 Live Crew" video, we’re sure the same thought crossed your mind as ours: "that Luther Campbell guy should run for public office."

It appears that the careful-what-you-wish-for fairy was paying attention that day, because Campbell is giving active thought to running for Mayor in Miami. Efforts to establish a recall vote for existing Mayor Alvarez have succeeded, and has been set for March 15. That’s when Uncle Luke plans to make his move.

“If Carlos Alvarez gets recalled, I will seriously think about running for Miami-Dade County mayor,” wrote the rapper in a special letter to the Miami New Times. “And should I win, I would make everyday I am in office a reality show. Everyday, Miami-Dade residents will have transparency in the mayor’s office.”

There have been efforts to recall Alvarez since December 2009, but a movement to establish a recall initially failed without enough signatures necessary. The possibilities of a recall gained steam again this past September when county commissioners passed a budget that raised property taxes and increased the salaries of county employees.

The Miami native didn’t hide from his sordid past in the article, which he welcomed opponents to explore. “And if I decide I will get into politics, I have no problem addressing the many controversies that have been a part of my life,” he wrote. “I will have no problem answering questions about the negative side of my life. I look forward to my opponents digging up every wrong thing I have done.”

“I’ve been a successful businessman in this community for years,” Luke wrote. “I was born and raised in Miami-Dade. No one can question the love I have for my home county."

Campbell’s also no stranger to speaking his mind on political issues. Back in November, Luke took to his weekly ‘Luke’s Gospel’ column for the New Times, verbally smacking down the liberal Florida citizens who couldn’t be bothered to vote.

“I have to congratulate the Tea Party," he wrote. "They came out in numbers and voted, This gave the Republicans a stunning historic election victory. The Take Back America movement is a force to be reckoned with,” he declared. “Now, all the African Americans who stayed home have no right to complain when new Gov. and fraud veteran Rick Scott puts up armed security checkpoints and barbed wire fences around every housing project in Florida. Welfare recipients can’t moan when the state drug tests them before issuing food stamps.”

Let’s have a bit of a 2 Live Crew recap, shall we? Here’s "Face Down, Ass Up" on the Phil Donahue show. Somehow.

And, of course, who could forget "Banned in the USA"???

Oh, we haven’t forgotten, Luther. This is going to be awesome. At least my 14 year old self thinks so.
