Big Boi & Janelle Monae Debut “Be Still” Video

Comic-book coloring, bizarre angles and Big Boi rapping from the moon? What?

We’ve been waiting for the visuals for Big Boi and Janelle Monae’s duet on "Be Still" for over a month now, and our patience has been finally rewarded with a four and a half minute clip that borders on 90s-nostalgia cheesy.

Somehow, that's a good thing, as the song's energy and assortment of varying hues and strange angles makes it not altogether ridiculous that Big Boi's face appears in the moon to talk to Janelle.

Check out the final product for yourself:

In my review of Big Boi's debut solo album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, I complained that Miss Monae deserved more respect and reverence than the tea-bagging reference that preceded her guest appearance. The sentiment hasn't changed, though the video itself is an over-the-top and relatively goofy distraction.

Am I alone in really wishing we could see Janelle let her hair down and lose her cool for once?

Hopefully Big Boi makes good on his promise and delivers the rest of the videos for the album.  Sir Lucious Left Foot is in stores now.
