Justin Bieber wasn't amongst the winners of the 2011 American Music Awards this year, however he was nominated as well as performed a number of times during the three-hour show – he was the only Canuck representing Canada this time around, however Canadians have won a number of AMAs since its inception in 1974. Here are the top Canadian AMA winners over the years.
Celine Dion – 7 AMAs
Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist – 1998
Canada's most successful recording artist Celine Dion has won seven American Music Awards, the first being Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist in 1998 following the release of two albums, "Let's Talk About Love" and "Falling into You." She followed that up with several AMAs in '99, another in '01, and then again in '03.
Bryan Adams – 1 AMA
Favourites Pop/Rock Single for "Everything I Do I Do It for You" – 1992
One of our most beloved rock stars, Bryan Adams has only won one AMA out of the three times he's been nominated. His anthem "Everything I Do I Do It for You," one of the main songs from the hit flick "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was also included on Adams' album "Waking Up the Neighbours."
Shania Twain – 5 AMAs
Favourite New Country Artist – 1996
Amassing more than 180 different awards so far during the course of her career, Canadian country star Shania Twain took home her first American Music Award in 1996, and then continued her streak with wins in 1997, 1999, and 2000.
Justin Bieber – 4 AMAs
Artist of the Year – 2010
Probably Canada's youngest music mogul (and perhaps one of the most irritating), the Bieb has garnered four AMA honours in all, all in 2010, for Artist of the Year, T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist, Favourite Pop/rock Male Artist, and Favourite Pop/Rock Album for "My World 2.0."
Anne Murray – 3 AMAs
Female Country Singer – 1982
The winner of four Grammys and three CMA Awards, the lovely Anne Murray has also clinched three American Music Awards, her first being in '82 for Female Country Singer and then again in '85 with Favourite Country Video Single for "A Little Good News" along with Favourite Country Female Video Artist.
Alanis Morissette – 2 AMAs
Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist – 1996
The jagged Canadian rocker burst onto the music scene in the late 1990s and won Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist in 1996 following the release of '95's "Jagged Little Pill," which had charting success across the globe.
Nickelback – 2 AMAs
Favourite Pop/Rock Album for "All the Right Reasons" – 2006
They're the band you love to hate but that doesn't mean they haven't caught the attention of the AMAs, winning two in total, the first being in 2006 for Favourite Pop/Rock Album for "All the Right Reasons." They took home another American Music Award the next year for Favourite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group.
