Capping off a day of teasers, Marvel has released the first image from Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev’s upcoming Moon Knight ongoing series.
And oddly enough, the image features Moon Knight with the hands of Wolverine and Spider-man while standing upon Captain America’s shield.
The tagline "All the Avengers You’ll Ever Need" may refer to Moon Knight’s recent stint in Secret Avengers. He has also been loosely associated with the Avengers in the past, but rarely as an active member.
Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin back in 1975, where he first appeared in an issue of Werewolf By Night. Five years later, Moon Knight went on to star in his own comic book series, which established his origin. An American mercenary named Marc Spector was left for dead in the Egyptian desert. But before he died, he received a vision of the Egyptian god Khonshu, which seemingly healed him. He went on to become a masked hero in the greater Marvel Universe.
Although Moon Knight has often been described as Marvel’s Batman, he is distinguished by having multiple personalities including millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver, Jake Lockley. The character has starred in five ongoing series, with his most popular series released in 2006, when novelist Charlie Huston and penciller David Finch brought Moon Knight back after a long absence.
During last year’s New York Comic Con, Bendis promised that his Moon Knight will be a complete reinvention of the character. Bendis and Maleev have previously teamed for a critically acclaimed run on Daredevil and the short-lived Spider-Woman series.
Moon Knight returns in May.
