'Captain America: The First Avenger' Poster Revealed!

The interminable wait to see the Captain America trailer during Super Bowl XLV just got a little more terminable (does that work?): Marvel has released the official poster for the eagerly awaited World War II superhero film, which doubles as a prequel to Joss Whedon’s upcoming film The Avengers. Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers, a normal man who volunteers to become a super soldier to aid the American effort in World War 2. Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer) is directing.

The new one-sheet shows Chris Evans (Sunshine) looking excellent in full regalia, looking rather dour indeed. The curious part? The word ‘AVENGE‘ splayed across his chest. Oh crap… Cap’s going to have to avenge something. That probably doesn’t bode well for his sidekick Bucky (Hot Tub Time Machine‘s Sebastian Stan).

Captain America: The First Avenger opens July 22nd, and will be the second film from Marvel Studios this summer after Thor opens May 6th.
