Javier Bardem Offered a Place in 'The Dark Tower'

Javier Bardem’s having one hell of a week: he just racked up his third Oscar nomination, his wife Penelope Cruz just gave birth to their first child, and now he’s been offered the biggest role of his career, Deadline reports. Bardem is officially up for the part of Roland Deschain, the gunslinger from Stephen King’s epic Dark Tower novels. The books, long thought unfilmable, are being directed by Ron (Apollo 13) Howard and written Akiva (Batman and Robin) Goldsman.

Bardem would be signing for an epic project, and not just because King’s story would send him on a tremendous quest through a fantasy world to find the fabled spire: Howard’s project promises to span across three movies and a television series between them, most of which would have to star the Vicki Cristina Barcelonian. But with both Penelope Cruz and a new child at home, we’re forced to wonder if Bardem will even have the time to accept the project. The door might remain open for some of the other big name actors who were up for the role, including The Lord of the Rings‘ Viggo Mortensen and The Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale.

CRAVE Online will report back on this biutiful news as it develops.
