On the set of Parks and Recreation, the cast met with the Television Critics Association for waffles and tours of the studio. Aziz Ansari held court with a handful of journalists, answering really serious questions with really ridiculous answers. I jumped in with a few of mine and got schooled. Parks and Recreation returns January 20.
Crave Online: How much more packed are your standup shows since Parks and Recreation has been on?
Aziz Ansari: Well, I started a tour over the summer and yeah, I think the combination of Parks and I did a few movies and I also released a standup special, between all that stuff, this tour I did I was able to do theaters, like 2000-3000 seat theaters which is a dream as a comedian. I feel very fortunate to have been able to do it.
Crave Online: What’s a good way for non celebrities to get a bigger Twitter following?
Aziz Ansari: I don’t know, maybe if you say really racist stuff, hate groups will start following you and they have a lot of numbers so maybe that’s a way to do it.
Crave Online: Is contributing to trending topics a good idea?
Aziz Ansari: I don’t know, I don’t know that much about Twitter. I just say random dumb things on there and people follow me.
Crave Online: How is Tom’s love life this year?
Aziz Ansari: Well, he starts off dating. He has this new girlfriend that he’s dating but he’s also still kind of dealing with the whole Wendy issue so that’s kind of where Tom’s at when the show comes back.
Crave Online: Who plays the new girlfriend?
Aziz Ansari: Natalie Morales I believe is her name. It’s been so long, it was really like a year ago. Lucy is the character’s name and that’s who I’m dating when the show comes back and I’m dealing with the Wendy stuff.
Crave Online: What does Tom do at the Harvest Festival?
Aziz Ansari: Well, him and Jerry are in charge of Little Sebastian and things obviously go awry in a comedic way.
Crave Online: Is there anything not funny about a donkey?
Aziz Ansari: Well, Little Sebastian’s not a donkey. He’s a miniature horse. And on that, the interview is over, sir.
