Playback, Canada’s film, television and digital entertainment industry journal, named Christina Jennings, CEO of Shaftesbury Films, Producer of the Decade.

Founded more than 13 years ago, Jennings has single-handedly helped the company to triple their production and development output, creating over 40,000 jobs for Canadians with 55 productions, which include 26 made-for-television films, 16 television series and seven mini-series. Shaftesbury Films’ projects are shown across the country as well as in 120 countries worldwide.

Patricia Bailey, who penned the feature on Jennings, wrote: "Fearless and inspiring. A big brain with the heart to match. A risk-taker who lives for a good story. That’s how those who work with Christina Jennings describe the woman who, over the past decade, has emerged as one of this country’s most innovative and successful producers. Since 1987, Jennings has brought thousands of hours of award-winning television programs and feature films to audiences in Canada and around the world."

Jennings attended a film program at the Canadian Film Centre before she founded Shaftesbury Films (and now sits on the Centre’s board of directors). She has received several prestigious accolades in the last few years including the PROFIT Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship at the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards three years ago as well as the Lionsgate/Maple Pictures Innovative Producer Award in 2009 along with Playback‘s Person of the Year in 2007 and then Producer of the Decade in 2010.

"She’s so enthusiastic she can talk you into doing just about anything," says Canadian actress Wendy Crewson in an official press release, who has worked on a number of Jennings’ projects. "Whatever she’s got going on she’s behind 100 percent. She has been a production engine in this city. She’s kept so many of us working. She knows what will sell."
