All signs point to “yes” if Australian retailer Game can be trusted. The store has leaked an internet leaflet for the next Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack, entitled “Escalation,” set to launch on May 3 on Xbox 360 (month and day are reversed in Australia). Much like all previous Call of Duty map pack expansions, the PC and PS3 will get the DLC later on.
Here’s a high resolution shot of the e-flier.
Escalation looks to bring another five levels to the multiplayer portion of Black Ops. Four of the levels are for competitive mode, while the final is for zombie survival mode. Currently they are named “zoo,” “hotel,” “convoy,” “stockpile” and “call of the dead.” But those sound like tempt names for the time being. We would also like to take a second and point out the tiger on the street sign in “zoo.” Consider us completely sold on this map pack if wild tigers are on the loose in this level. That will throw a serious monkey wrench into how players play Black Ops online (at least for that level).
Hopefully Escalation will reach/exceed the level of quality seen in Treyarch's last Black Ops map pack, "First Strike." Our own Joey Davidson loved the hell out of it, as seen in his gushing review.
But keep in mind that this could all be a hoax. Odds are it isn’t, but there’s still the slightest of chances. So don’t go getting your hopes up just yet. Now we just have to sit back and wait for Activision and/or Treyarch to confirm or deny the legitimacy of this DLC.
