Well folks if you were up in the middle of the night You got to witness a frenzy of social media fun as the world first heard the news Osama Bin Laden has been killed.
Unless you heard this news instead
Twitter, facebook, whatever social media floats your boat, even foursquare got involved in the funniest death of 2011
In fact it was merely second after making my own smart ass tweet that I realized… I was accidently on to something.
No sooner had I sent my tweet about Bin Laden on foursquare, than I started seeing tweets from foursquare checkins.
I'm at Osama's Hiding Spot (123 Cant Find Me Drive, Everywhere) w/ 5 others http://4sq.com/iyzLWVhttp://4sq.com/iyzLWV
On Foursquare a wave of check-in were created instantly:
- A world without Osama Bin Laden
- Osama’s hiding spot
- Osama Bin Laden Can Suck it
- Osamapocalypse 2011
- Club Osama is dead
And the list goes on.
A facebook fanpage created as soon of word of the death, instantly shot up past 200,000 likes with in mere hours. By the time you see this, it’ll probably be near a million.
Twitter was a buzz with quips and commentary
Humor came from Poking fun at Donald Trump, Poking fun at war, poking fun at the royal wedding. Nothing was safe.
Not even Justin Beiber was Safe. No, especially not Justin Beiber
Waves of people have taken to tweeting and/or retweeting the epic chat:
“✓ Saddam Hussein ✓ Osama Bin Laden ☐ Justin Bieber—»”
Soon the joke actually became about pretending not to know.
But of Course it’s sad to say that Bin Laden will in fact have the last laugh on us all as mrchrisaddison points out, showing us that in his death Bin Laden will get his 72 virgins.
So if you were up, it was an epic night. Unless you were Nick Nolte, then you just miss out … on everything.
