At a reveal event held yesterday in Austin, Texas, Sony and start-up studio LightBox Interactive announced Starhawk, the follow-up to 2007’s multiplayer-only Warhawk.
Due in 2012, exclusively on PlayStation 3, Starhawk is more than just a tried-and-true sequel. This new game drops the World War II-inspired art direction of its predecessor to instead head to the future and into space. Starhawk will see the franchise return to single player glory as well, in addition to the massive multiplayer component that will once again be a primary focus.
Furthermore, LightBox talked up their “Build and Battle” gameplay system, which lets you erect structures in the middle of battles on the fly, adding a layer of real-time strategy to the third-person shooter title.
Expect more on LightBox’s Starhawk in the coming weeks, especially with E3 right around the corner. In the meantime, enjoy the game's first trailer, which details the world, characters and gameplay of Starhawk.
