Laura Ziskin passed away this past Sunday, June 12th. The producer and philanthropist, who had been fighting breast cancer for seven years, left behind a legacy of work that will not be forgotten. Normally we write something clever or something in our introductions, but this news is simply, utterly sad. She was 61. Hollywood Reporter had the unfortunate news.

Ziskin's producing career spanned a broad swath of films from the mega-popular Spider-Man movie franchise to Pretty Woman to No Way Out to As Good As It Gets to Murphy's Romance to What About Bob? (for which she wrote the original story). She began her career as an associate producer on Eyes of Laura Mars, directed by The Empire Strike Back's Irvin Kershner and starring Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones. She was the first woman to produce the Academy Awards solo in 2002.

Ziskin also co-founded Stand Up to Cancer, an organization intended to jumpstart cancer research by donating significant sums of money to promising cancer research.

Rest in peace, Laura Ziskin. You will be missed.
