"The phone, the phone, where's the #$%&ing phone?!"

There are two kinds of people in the world: people who love Wet Hot American Summer and people who haven't seen it. If you're in the second group, for shame… But if you're in the first group, we've got good news. Writer/director David Wain just revealed plans, early though they may be, for a prequel.

Thanks to Vulture, we've found an listened to "The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith" which features an in-depth interview with Wain, one of the co-creators of The State. In addition to an insightful look at the production of a cult hit, including a hilarious sequence in which Wain reads aloud a series of instant messages in which he and Wet Hot American Summer star Joe Lo Truglio brainstormed ideas for a title ("Flashlights and Bug Bites," "Bunk You," "Constipation Camp," and "Taco Meat Drips on Nipples 2" are among the highlights). But most exciting of all were Wain's comments that a Wet Hot American Summer prequel is in the works:

"The prequel would be the same summer, so it would be 40-year-olds playing 16-year-olds. And yeah, we're in the early stages of thinking about that."

Wain also said that he'd approached Universal to pitch a 10th Anniversary DVD/Blu-Ray release, for which he would produce a short prequel as a special feature, but Universal said, "No, nobody buys it. Nobody cares."

For shame

Crave Online will be back with more Wet Hot American Summer prequel news. We hope.
