We haven't heard hide nor hair from Parker, Taylor Hackford's new adaptation of Donald Westlake's popular crime novels, since Jason Statham was announced as the lead actor. That was back in April. Well, it looks like things are finally ramping up: Michael Chiklis has been cast as the bad guy, whoever that is (we still have no idea which if any of Westlake's novels is being adapted). It's impressive that Hollywood managed to find the only talented actor balder than Jason Statham. Maybe their antagonism stems from jealousy.
Michael Chiklis is a powerful player in the field of television: the actor has headlined such acclaimed series as The Commish and The Shield, the latter of which won him the 2002 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. But for whatever reason he's never quite taken off at the box office, mostly taking lower-profile roles in films like Eagle Eye or Rise: Blood Hunter. He almost had a big break playing Ben Grimm, a.k.a. "The Thing" in Tim Story's Fantastic Four movies, but although Chiklis's performance was popular the movies themselves were not. More recently he went back to television with the ABC superhero series No Ordinary Family, which was canceled last May. The good news, at least, is that this frees him for Parker.
Moreover, Deadline also reports that Jennifer Lopez is circling the female lead in Hackford's film, although she is still merely "in talks" for the part. Maybe she wants to ask viewers across the country to phone in and give their votes on the matter. (Because she's in American Idol, you see.)
CRAVE Online will be back with more Parker news, as long as we get our $70,000.
