Nintendo has announced today that Netflix is now officially available for the 3DS handheld. Players can rush onto the 3DS’ eShop and download the Netflix application to begin streaming their favorite movies and TV shows, as long as you have a Netflix unlimited streaming account.

The 3DS is just another console in the long line of systems that have adopted a Netflix application. However, this is the first portable gaming console that offers the program, not counting things like the iPad or iPhone. As long as you can pick up a Wi-Fi hot-spot, you’re good to watch movies and shows to your heart’s content.

As of right now, you can only watch programs in 2D on the 3DS’ upper screen. However, eventually there will be 3D movies added to Netflix specifically tailored for viewing on the Nintendo 3DS without having to use lame specialty glasses.

Well, what are you waiting for? If you own a 3DS and are a Netflix subscriber, there’s no reason not to download this. Go!
