No Rest for the Nerdy – Vol. 28

Tuning out the gaming drought with some serious scratchin' action.

We never stop playing video games. That’s a fact. Even after we call it quits for the week we still look forward to getting home and continuing our digital conquests. It’s our life blood. So we thought it would be fun to share with everyone what our gaming intentions are for the weekend so you guys can get a sense of what we're playing and enjoying on a weekly, non-formal basis. Yes, this concept isn't new to the internet. But hey, we kind of want to join in on the fun. Can you blame us for that? So without further ado, here’s what we’re playing this weekend that will forfeit any semblance of rest…

Please feel free to sound off below to let us know what your gaming plans are this weekend.

erikErik Norris: Dear God, the summer drought is absolutely killing me. I can’t find the motivation to play much of anything right now, not even the games I have in my backlog. It’s a dark time in gaming for me. But if I do pick up the controller to do something other than boot up Netflix, I’ll probably take Joey’s recommendation and download the XBLA title Bastion. I’ve read a lot of goods things about the game, including the awesome ongoing narrative and beautiful environment, and feel it’s time to give the title a shot. Hopefully, Bastion is the title that bounces me out of this gameless funk I’m currently stuck in.

I’m also mentally preparing myself for next week’s Resistance 3 beta event. We’ve got early access and have some coverage in the works. So keep an eye on CraveOnline’s gaming channel for that early next week.

alexAlex Keen: I picked up a DJ Hero deck new yesterday for $10.  Apparently, because GameStop is still on some inventory, they needed to clear these puppies at bargain basement prices.  I picked up a used copy of the original game and I’ll be scratching away all weekend long.  Consider me psyched!

I was provided an early copy of the XBLA title Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet for review.  I played the game at PAX East and was impressed.  Hopefully, I’ll find a couple of uninterrupted hours to plug away at the game to give you all a full review some time next week.  If not, I’m sure I could convince Erik to hang out and record yet another Watch Us Play!

joeyJoey Davidson: I picked up From Dust last night on a whim. It was the sort of whim that I backed up with the logic of, “if I get this, maybe I can write about it.” I had heard mixed things about the game from friends and fellow critics. I figured I’d take a look for myself.

So far, the game is plain ol’ okay. My mind hasn’t been blown by the ability to alter the landscape at will, and I’ve found that I have absolutely no motivation to complete the title beyond achieving that notion of completion. I don’t care about the tribes or the story so far, and that’s a bummer.

Still, I’m only a few hours into the process. Maybe another long burst of play will convince me that From Dust is a lot more than I’ve seen up until now. Who knows, I may fall in love with this game.
