This has been a long time coming, but Sucker Punch is now officially part of the Sony family. The InFamous and Sly Cooper developer announced today that Sony has secured them as an exclusive first-party PlayStation developer. Sucker Punch joins the ranks of Naughty Dog (Uncharted), Guerrilla Games (Killzone), Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet), Japan Studio (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus), Sony Santa Monica (God of War) and roughly 15 other studios as internal Sony companies. This is truly esteemed company.

“Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family,” said SCE WorldWide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida.

“The addition of Sucker Punch to SCE WWS reiterates our dedication to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform. With one of the strongest exclusive software lineups in the PS3′s history, combined with the diverse, innovate content in the works for PlayStation Vita, consumers have a lot to be excited about this year.”

So congratulations to Sucker Punch are in order. They absolutely deserve this. Here’s to more great Sucker Punch titles under the Sony umbrella in the future. And if you haven’t already picked up InFamous 2, I suggest you do so. It’s quite good.
