The gang at DC Comics are putting all their eggs in the New 52 basket. Relaunching their entire universe of comics with 52 brand new #1 issues, claiming you don't have to have read anything that came before these books to get with the program. One of those eggs is a 30 second TV commercial which the LA Times debuted today, and which you can see below.
The response so far has been skeptical, as it doesn't necessarily make perfectly clear what's going on with DC Comics, and that whole work-boots Superman ain't gonna sell nobody on nothin'. There's also some talk that this whole 'animated comic' look is passe, although the new audience DC is hoping to reach with this effort certainly wouldn't be aware of that. On one hand, the lack of any spoken dialog might truthfully bring home the comics experience, but we're just not sure if this commercial really "pops." It does look kinda neat, though.
There's also an extended version of this spot that'll likely just be floating around online, and it features more than just the classic Superfriends line-up of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman.
What do you think? Sound off!
