Folks, this December we’re going back to Karkand. EA Games and DICE have sent out a notice announcing that the first expansion for Battlefield 3, the “Back to Karkand” pack, will be dropping at some point this December.

The “Back to Karkand” DLC includes four Battlefield 2 maps remastered (Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula), as well as five new dog tags, five new achievements/trophies, three new vehicles (DPV, BTR-90 and F-35B STOVL jet fighter), 10 new weapons and a new “persistence” system where you can earn rewards by completing assignments. Basically, this add-on pack is pretty meaty.

It’s also free if you pick up the Limited Edition version of Battlefield 3 on Xbox 360, PS3 or PC. While quantities last, the Limited Edition version is the standard retail edition, so you only pay the normal $60 for the game and inside you’ll find a voucher for the DLC that will allow you to download it at no charge once it goes live in December.

EA has not yet announced a price for the DLC if you don’t get the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3.
