[CORRECTION: This report originally announced that Joss Whedon was directing 'In Your Eyes.' This statement was inaccurate. The film is being directed by Brin Hill, and only written and produced by Joss Whedon. We'd like to blame a Halloween sugar rush for our mistake, but the truth is… Actually no, let's go with the sugar rush.]
Joss Whedon is a man on the move. Without a television series to distract him for a change, he's mounting one feature film production after another. First there was The Avengers, a film which you may have heard of (and if not, what's wrong with you?), and then a week ago he announced that he'd written, produced and shot an entire film in secret. That movie was Much Ado About Nothing, a contemporary adaptation of one of William Shakespeare's most popular comedies, starring many of his Whedonverse regulars, including Angel's Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof. The acclaimed writer shot the film for his new independent production company Bellwether Films, and he's just set up another film under that banner: In Your Eyes.
The film has been described as a supernatural romance, about two characters who seem to be polar opposites, but have deeper and entirely unexpected connections. Deadline quoted Whedon as saying, "When I wrote In Your Eyes, I didn’t have the wherewithal (or the moxie) to make it without an established production house […] I believe, as I did then, that it’s a pretty timeless romance, and now, with the creation of Bellwether Pictures (and Brin Hill’s elegant, passionate take on the piece), I have the opportunity to prove it. (I also have a 37% increase in moxie.) I love this team and I can’t wait to see them bring In Your Eyes to life.”
Gotta love those Joss Whedon press releases.
Whedon's been saddled with action movies so far in his directorial career, with Serenity and The Avengers, but Much Ado About Nothing and In Your Eyes seem like perfect fits for the filmmaker, who always brings a tangible amount of emotional intimacy to all of his projects. Whedon is only producing and providing the screenplay for In Your Eyes, however. The film is set to be directed by Brin Hill, whose first feature, Ball Don't Lie, can be previewed below.
CraveOnline will be back with more In Your Eyes news as soon as we see a doorway to a thousand churches.
