In the closing moments of the seventh season finale of "Weeds," Mary-Louise Parker's Nancy Botwin and her family found themselves in the crosshairs of a gunman before a shot rang out. But no matter which family member caught a bullet, it'll take more than that to stop Nancy!

Showtime and Lionsgate TV have come to terms for an eighth season of "Weeds;" which is slated to return in 2012.  As in previous seasons, "Weeds" will get 13 new episodes with production expected to begin early next year.

The seventh season of "Weeds" took place three years after the sixth season, as Nancy emerged from federal custody. After an extended exile in Copenhagen, Nancy's sons  Silas (Hunter Parrish) and Shane (Alexander Gould), her brother-in-law, Andy (Justin Kirk) and Botwin family hanger-on Doug (Kevin Nealon) returned to the United States as Nancy attempted to restart her pot business while fighting off stiff competition and attempting to win back custody of her youngest son, Stevie.

Although it's currently unknown if there were any fatalities from the fateful gunshot in the season finale, all of the cast members listed above seem likely to return. It had been expected that "Weeds" would end after the eighth season, but the announcement from Showtime and series creator Jenji Kohan made no mention of the upcoming season as the wrap up for the show.
