There was a time, not too long ago, when it seemed like Tom Cruise's career was doomed. The couch thing, the Katie Holmes thing, the Lions for Lambs thing… but Maverick's still going strong, lining up one high-profile project after another. He's got the sci-fi epic Oblivion on the horizon, the Jack Reacher adaptation One Shot (co-starring Werner Herzog, so you know it's good), and now the adorably titled All You Need is Kill, an adaptation of the Japaense novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
Adorably titled, perhaps, but grammatically frustrating.
Deadline reports that Cruise is circling the lead role in a film about a soldier battling an alien species who awakens 24 hours earlier every time he dies. And then he gets killed again. And again. But over time he gains experience as a soldier, giving him the skills necessary to change the outcome of the war. But can he ice sculpt?
The famously easygoing actor joins a project already boarded by The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman, a man not famous for his easygoing productions. We look forward to rumors of backstage shenanigans, delays in shooting and budget hikes. Don't disappoint us, Doug!
CraveOnline will be back with more All You Need is Kill news after we finish our spec scripts for Let It Be (Dead), Slay Tripper and Across the Killniverse.
