Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is set to launch on May 7, 2013. This news came to us via the Spike Video Game Awards this past Friday. Today, Sony has taken to their official blog to announce pre-order bonuses for the game, as well as show off the title’s official box art.

First, let’s take a look at that pretty imagery. Here you go:

Simple and elegant. Nicely done, Naughty Dog.

Now, if you decide to pre-order the game, you’ll hook yourself up with the game’s official soundtrack, a PS3 theme and more, as part of the “Sights and Sounds Pack.” The complete listing is below.

  • The official soundtrack of the game
  • A PS3 dynamic theme featuring the cover art
  • Two avatars for your PSN profile – Winter Joel and Winter Ellie

You can also head to your local GameStop to pre-order the title and lock yourself into additional content. The GameStop exclusive pre-order pack, called the “Survival Pack,” brings with it bonus experience points for multiplayer, extra in-game starting cash, special customizable character items for multiplayer and two bonus skins for Jake and Ellie that unlock after you've beat the game. Below you can find the full listing:

  • Bonus experience points for multiplayer
  • A multiplayer melee attack booster
  • Some extra starting in-game cash
  • Special customizable character items for multiplayer
  • Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after your complete the single player campaign

Up until this point, multiplayer has never been brought up when discussing The Last of Us. It should be interesting to see how the mode is handled in a game like this. If it’s just a knockoff of Uncharted, that would seem odd and out of place in a world as bleak and dark as The Last of Us, where killing is not something you do for kicks, but out of necessity to survive.

Lastly, Sony has released the trailer for The Last of Us that premiered during the Spike Video Game Awards. We published it as part of our complete roundup of all the VGA announcements, but if you’re too lazy to head over to that article, here it is again.
