Top 10 Films As Chosen By The Canadian Press

Media members in Canada have chosen the best flicks of 2012.

The Canadian Press has picked their top 10 favourite movies of the year, and from dramas to comedies and documentaries, these are the handful that made the cut.


This emotionally-charged flick starring Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant is not only moving but shows the strength of an elderly couple as they quickly age.

“Beasts of the Southern Wild”

Featuring newcomer Quvenzhane Wallis along with Dwight Henry, the "look" of this movie has been touted for being especially beautiful as it delves into a massive storm that is reminiscent of Katrina.

“Django Unchained”

A spaghetti Western by Quentin Tarantino as well as Samuel L. Jackson, Leonardo diCaprio and Jamie Foxx in starring roles – need we say more?

“Life of Pi”

Based on the Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name by Canadian Yann Martel, Ang Lee gives life to this tale of a young boy trapped on a boat with a Bengal tiger.


Time travel is dizzying and intriguing in this awesome flick, starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

“Silver Linings Playbook”

Are there any stars in Hollywood who aren't in this movie, which includes a cast with Robert De Niro, Oscar nominees Jennifer Lawrence and Jacki Weaver, and stars Bradley Cooper and Chris Tucker? All of them deliver amazing performances.


Some say this just might be the best Bond movie ever, led by Daniel Craig, which is why it made this top 10 movies chosen by the Canadian press.

“Stories We Tell”

Sarah Polley does it again, only this time with her debut documentary that profiles her family in a unique and engaging way.

“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”

With India serving as a backdrop, seven British retirees look at their mortality with this film, starring Tom Wilkinson, Judi Dench, and Maggie Smith.

“The Queen of Versailles”

Indulgence, greed, and more collide in this look at a family who is trying to build the largest and most expensive single-family home in the United States.
